As more states began to industrialize many oversea colonies were established by European States/Countries such as France, Spain, Britain. However, as time progressed new empires and anti- imperial attitudes were formed. Thus, cause resistance and independence from mother countries.

Imperialistic influence
Expansion of U.S and Euro over Tokugawa Japan opened the isolated Japan’s eyes and realized how far behind they truly were. Which eventually led to the Meiji Restorations which put them on a path of centralization, industrialization, and imperialism.
U.S, Russia expanded land borders
Anti - Imperialism led to the downfall in the Ottoman Empire. ( also fun fact in APWH The Ottoman Empire during this time period is referred to as the sick man of Europe.)
